Eating Media Lunch

Eating Media Lunch has been canned after eight seasons as part of TVNZ’s cost-cutting measures.

It won Best Comedy at the Qantas Film and TV awards last year.

Friday 14 November, 9.30pm

In this week’s Eating Media Lunch Special, presenter Jeremy Wells dissects the madness and mayhem of the 2008 New Zealand election aided by some of New Zealand’s leading psychics and astrologers.

Wells also travels to the Kingdom of Tonga to witness the coronation of George Tupou the 5th and to discover for himself the truth about this much maligned monarchy. Much has been made of the pomp, pageantry and poverty surrounding the lavish coronation and Wells discovers some surprise celebrity guests. He also meets the winner of the inaugural Tonga’s Next Top Model.

Friday 7 November, 9.45pm

Back to stir things up on TV2, is Eating Media Lunch. Three new specials of the show will run over the next three weeks, featuring a unique take on events including the Republican National Convention, the New Zealand Election, the Tongan Coronation, and firm favourite, Eating Media Lunch’s wrap up of the Most Shocking Moments of 2008.

This week, host Jeremy Wells travels to Minnesota to witness the pomp and protest at the Republican National Convention.

While John McCain and Sarah Palin preach to the converted, Wells talks to the delegates. However, his unconventional questions prove to be his undoing and he finds himself detained by the Minnesota State Police.

Here is a clip from last Friday’s episode of Eating Media lunch- which i found interesting…

Now I understand the point which they are trying to get across, and I am a huge fan of the show- but do you think after a while it lost it’s bite?

Friday 23 November, 10.00pm

From spectacular PR disasters to alien encounters and the coveted EML awards, Eating Media Lunch continues to fly in the face of common sense.

In this Friday’s episode, Jeremy Wells examines this the country’s most spectacular PR disasters of the year; from the Ribena debacle to the Mercury Energy tragedy, and of course the high profile police sex scandals.
Eating Media Lunch special correspondent Wallace Chapman then goes in search of alien encounters at a UFO conference in Rotorua, which he describes as “a very spooky time.”

The following week, Wells will travel to the 16th annual World Impersonators Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. With him are some of New Zealand’s finest look-a-likes, including; Austin Powers (Orewa), Freddy Mercury (Birkenhead) and Cher (Hamilton).

“It’s a peculiar parallel universe where pretend celebrities from all around the world are vying for their ten minutes of fatuous fame,” says Wells.

The climax of the series will be the much anticipated EML Awards. Now in their fourth year the EML’s recognize those in the public eye who have been overlooked for other awards. Some of the hotly contested awards include; Outstanding Moment in a Reality Show, Best Use of Offensive Language and Best Live Television Performance. Then the highly-anticipated and much coveted title ‘New Zealander of the Year’ will be awarded.

“We’ve seen some award-winning performances this year in all sectors of the community; from the police, to alleged terrorists and of course current affairs journalists,” says Wells. “It will be so hard to winnow out the winners.”

The media scrum hounding 3 News’ Kate Lynch and the other random people – classic

Our friend Cam, a 16 year old student from Christchurch, recently started his very own podcast interviewing tv and music celebrities. He’s talked with Robyn Malcolm from Outrageous Fortune, Carly Flynn from Sunrise and Jeremy Wells from Eating Media Lunch (on tonight!) as well as a number of bands.

The interviews are interesting and pretty funny (it gets rather random with Jeremy Wells – but would you expect anything else?) and different to the quick-fire interviews you normally get on TV or the radio.

Check out Chattin’ with Cam – and if you have any ideas for future interviews, let him know! chats to Jeremy Wells from Eating Media Lunch about phone sex, the weather, GoodMorning and the new series of EML on at 10pm every Friday

Check out our interview with Stables from ZM which was recorded last year!

eugh. disgusting. Showing a chicken bestiality porno on TV. Granted they didn’t show the cocks’ cock, but it was depraved. I felt so dirty and unclean after watching it.

EML… always pushing the boundaries!

One of the most classic Kiwi shows is back tonight! Eating Media Lunch returns to TV2 at 10pm.

Jeremy Wells will be on ZM this morning at 8:40am talking to Polly and Grant.
