Equator

Living Channel – Saturdays from 5 April, 10.00pm

Follow Simon Reeves as he takes a thrilling 40,000 kilometre journey around the Equator, meeting head-hunters, piranhas and malaria along the way. For most, the Equator is just an imaginary line running around the globe. However the countries that sit on the Equator are among the most troubled on the planet. It is the region with the greatest concentration of natural biodiversity and the greatest concentration of human poverty and political turmoil. This series looks at issues including conflict, environmental damage, dictators, poverty, tourism, pollution, unemployment and disease. But it is also a spectacular travelogue, with coral beaches, strange foods, glorious rainforests and exotic wildlife.
