SkySportlogoKiwi football fans have decided on the two games that Sky Sport will be airing live on the final day of the Premier League season this weekend.

The public Facebook voting resulted in the Arsenal v Newcastle and Tottenham v Sunderland games being selected for live broadcast.

The voting was necessary due to the fact all ten Premier League games this weekend start at exactly the same time, as is traditional on the final day of the season.

The remaining eight games will air on Sky Sport 4 on Monday from 6am. Continue reading »

espn_logoESPN will air the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final between German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund later this month.

The pair will do battle at London’s Wembley Stadium on May 26, with coverage beginning on ESPN (Sky channel 61) at 6.30am.

Plenty of beer and bratwurst will be consumed at London’s Wembley Stadium, the venue for this year’s final. The iconic football arena has hosted seven Champions League finals, the last time in 2011 when Barcelona defeated Manchester United 3-1. Continue reading »

Beckham’s MLS finale on ESPN

ESPN will air an exclusive interview with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star – as he prepares to depart the MLS five years after joining the US’ top football league. On Saturday, ESPN will air a live one-hour special edition of ESPNFC Press Pass, its global football debate and discussion show, entitled, Beckham’s Goodbye To Hollywood. On Sunday morning, ESPN will have live and exclusive coverage of the MLS Cup Final – between Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo – as Beckham tries to help his Galaxy teammates to a second straight title. Kiwi football fans will be without live coverage of some of the All Whites’ crucial qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Oceania Football Confederation has advised that coverage of the three All Whites away matches on Sky TV will be limited to highlights packages.

The September 7, October 12 and March 26 away matches will not have live broadcasts produced due to the cost of production in the Solomon Islands, Tahiti and New Caledonia. Continue reading »

Sky Sport is pleased to announce coverage of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Japan. All of New Zealand’s pool games will be broadcast live.

If the New Zealand Women’s U20 side make it through to the Quarter-Finals, that match will also be played live with Sky Sport also featuring coverage of the Semi-Finals and Final.

Sixteen teams will compete in the sixth edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World which runs from Sunday through to the final on September 8th. Continue reading »

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) has come under scrutiny following the Euro 2012 football tournament for manipulating live coverage of the matches.

An investigation was started after footage of a German fan shedding a tear when Germany had conceded a second goal against Italy was shown.

Friends of the woman crying claimed that she had not cried after the goal but instead during the German national anthem. Continue reading »

Monday morning’s live coverage of the Euro 2012 final was marred by a satellite problem that caused viewers to miss the first goal.

Sky Television’s coverage of the match between Spain and Italy was interrupted in the 13th minute of play with a loss of picture that lasted for around three minutes.

During that time, David Silva netted the opening goal for Spain, who went on to win the match 4-0.

When the coverage resumed, standard definition replaced the high definition picture and audio problems were experienced for the remainder of the first half. Continue reading »

Fans of European football will be delighted to hear Prime will be screening eight key UEFA Euro 2012 matches live, exclusive and free-to-air from June 9.

As well as four key matches from the four pool games, Prime will also screen live coverage of the two quarter-finals, the semi final and the grand final live from Kyiv, Ukraine on July 2, making for exciting breakfast time viewing!

Sky is looking into obtaining the rights to screen the All Whites games from the OFC Nations Cup in the Solomon Islands.

The New Zealand football side’s road to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil begins at the tournament but so far no NZ broadcaster has secured the rights to screen it.

A Sky spokesperson confirmed that they are in negotiations with the Oceania Football Confederation.

New Zealand Football chief executive Grant McKavanagh said they have no control over the situation. Continue reading »
