premerleague“No EPL, no SKY TV” is the catchphrase of a Facebook page set up this week following the news Sky TV has lost the broadcast rights to the English Premier League.

The ‘Unsubscribing from Sky TV because no EPL’ page boasts just under 3,000 fans who look to be parting ways with Sky to watch football elsewhere.

It was announced yesterday that Coliseum Sports Media had outbid Sky for the rights and will be offering an online package to football fans alongside TVNZ’s limited free-to-air coverage.

premerleagueColiseum Sports Media has obtained the broadcast rights to the English Premier League for the next three seasons.

They will provide streaming access to subscribers while TVNZ will air one game every Sunday afternoon as well as a highlights package every Monday.

The new Premier League Pass website states that all 380 games of the season will be available to be streamed live with 250 available for on demand streaming.

The cost of the season pass is said to be $149.90 for the basic package including live streaming and on demand with a more substantial package priced at $231.90. Continue reading »

tvnz_logo2TVNZ has confirmed this afternoon it will air selected Premier League football matches this coming season.

TVNZ has confirmed it is partnering with Coliseum Sports Media to bring TV coverage of football’s Barclays Premier League to Kiwi sports fans.

TV ONE will present a match of the week game every Sunday from the start of the season. The channel will also broadcast an hour long highlights show on Monday nights.

The deal will see Coliseum showing the entire competition online and TVNZ showing selected matches and weekly highlights on air. Broadcast details are still being finalised and will be publicised closer to the time of the season kick-off in coming weeks. Continue reading »

premerleagueUS-based Kiwi entrepreneur Craig Heatley is believed to be the successful bidder for the broadcast rights to the English Premier League.

Heatley’s new digital media company 818 is reported to be the new rights holder after outbidding Sky, who said they are disappointed not to have retained them.

It is understood Heatley has teamed up with another prominent New Zealand businessman to form an alternative online sporting channel.

Heatley is yet to confirm whether his company has acquired the rights but said he will discuss it further when he arrives in New Zealand later this week. Continue reading »

You may be aware of speculation concerning the future of the Broadcast Rights for the English Premier League on SKY.

We have been negotiating to renew the rights for a number of months as we value the Premier League highly and with this in mind we placed our highest ever bid for the rights.

In the last few days we have been told that we have been outbid for those rights by what we believe to be a Private Equity Company. We are also led to believe that they will be offering the games as an online package but until the winning bidder announces their plans for the rights we have no greater knowledge than you as to what those plans may be.
