Funny Roots

8:00pm – Tuesday, May 8 on TV 3

New Zealanders are funny people, but what makes us funny? Is comedy in our DNA or does it come from the people and places that surround us?

TV3’s intriguing new series Funny Roots, premiering on Tuesday, May 8th at 8pm on 3, asks just that, as the some of nation’s finest stand-up comedians – Steve Wrigley, Paul Ego, Ewen Gilmour, Jarred Christmas, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Jeremy Elwood, Ben Hurley, and Irene Pink – travel to the country of their birth or ancestry to find out about their funny roots.

Each week will feature a different comedian finding out what makes people laugh in a different country by observing local culture and meeting with local comedians.

Do people in a foreign land laugh at the same things as us, or is their humour completely different? The ultimate test will come when the comedian performs stand-up comedy in front of a foreign crowd!

Does New Zealand comedy work abroad? Or will these stand ups fall down? Find out when Steve Wrigley travels to Holland in this week’s unmissable Funny Roots premiere, screening on Tuesday, May 8th at 8pm on 3.
