Greatest Escapes in History

HISTORY CHANNEL – Weeknights from 10 November, 7.00pm

This series looks at the stories of those who have achieved the seemingly impossible: from the three American astronauts who returned to earth safely after their spacecraft Apollo 13 suffered a major explosion while on route to the Moon, to the hundreds of Allied soldiers who survived for weeks behind enemy lines before they were eventually rescued in one of the largest escape missions of World War II. The programmes also contain interviews with former inmates of supposedly escape proof prisons; previously embargoed footage of a prisoner rebellion in Alcatraz; and the extraordinary account of how three Polish men escaped from the death camp of Auschwitz, told by the men themselves.
