Media3Russell Brown’s media commentary TV show has been given another incarnation with NZ On Air announcing funding for a new series called Media Matters which will air in 2014 on Maori Television.  Russell wrote on his blog:

There will be 20 episodes next year of what will now be known as Media Matters. There will be a Maori co-host (we’re talking to people) and, as you would expect, attention paid to Maori media and Maori in the media, but it’s absolutely a show for everyone interested in media issues.

I haven’t been directly part of the many discussions that have led to this happy news, but I would like to acknowledge the support and goodwill of Maori Television’s news and current affairs division – a crew we’ve always had great respect for.

The live karaoke competition premieres for its seventh season on Māori Television on Friday, May 3 at 8.30pm with a bigger grand prize, a new format and new hosts.

Former Mai FM breakfast host Brent Mio teams up with Pikiteora Mura-Hita – the 2008 Homai Te Pakipaki Grand Final winner as they take over the reins from award-winning presenter Mātai Smith to host the show.

Maori Television’s popular karaoke show returns for a Christmas Eve paki special at the beach. Join host Matai Smith and the rest of the Homai crew for an evening of fun and special performances.

HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI, Maori Television’s original grassroots talent show, returns for the festive season with two special shows screening on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day at 8.30pm.

The festivities kick off on December 24 at 8.30pm with a show hosted by award-winning presenter Matai Smith, along with Pikiteora Mura-Hita and Brent Mio.

The biggest night on Maori Television takes place this Friday with the live Grand Final of Homai Te Pakipaki.

Ten aspiring singers will take the stage at Auckland’s Logan Campbell Centre on Friday, October 12 at 8.30pm to compete for the mana of being the series six winner – and a $10,000 cash prize.
