House Rules

Welcome to the second week of House Rules.

This week, the house being renovated is Carole and Russell’s, from Perth. They have a 1970’s weatherboard box in the Perth Hills. Carole bought it off Gumtree without telling Russell, and without a building inspection! That woman certainly wears the pants. They have a mortgage of $290,000, which is a lot for people later on in life. You can see that the home is a quite decrepit, and apparently has a termite issue. Maybe it would be better to demolish it and start over? It has a great view, so that is something.

As a reward for winning last week’s first renovation, Carole and Russell get to choose one luxury item to have in their house. SPA POOL! SPA POOL! SPA POOL! Call it a fluke but I was right. Carole would love a “trendy spa” in the ensuite overlooking the view.

Welcome back to the first reveal night of House Rules where we get to see the finished result of Candy and Ryan’s renovation.

Two expert judges – architect Joe Snell and Home Beautiful editor Wendy Moore – will score the renovations out of 10 and then Candy and Ryan who will have the final say, also scoring each room out of 10.

Just to remind you, Candy and Ryan’s (NSW) House Rules are:

1. Style our home edgy and arty

2. Deliver one-off pieces and graphic patterns

3. Showcase the bath in the master suite

4. Dish up citrus and concrete in our kitchen

5. Give Candy crazy colour in a fun laundry

Welcome to Series Two of House Rules, from the makers of My Kitchen Rules.

I really enjoy this show because even the team who finishes last still walks away with a renovated house. That is more than you can guarantee on The Block or Mitre Ten Dream Home. Last year there were some cracker couples – that older lady Michelle who constantly yelled “STEEEEEEEVO” was a hoot. I am sure the producers have found a good bunch for this season too.

The premise is pretty simple for the unfamiliar – “Six teams from around Australia put their own homes on the line and their renovation skills to the test to try and win a mortgage free life on HOUSE RULES” – (Thanks House Rules website).

Must Watch:

House Rules (TV3, 7:30pm)
The new season gets underway tonight. Roger is back with his recaps of the show so check back at Throng afterwards to discuss the season premiere.

Last Resort (Four, 8:40pm)
Any show that was filmed in Hawaii is compulsory viewing in our house. Despite being a couple of years old, Last Resort is a good watch if you need a bit of action in your primetime viewing.

houserules_s1ep1I apologise for the somewhat misleading headline as doubling something tends to sound rather impressive.  The reality is that it is quite easy to double a very small number.

Last night’s episode of House Rules on TV3 drew an average audience of 201,930 viewers, up 93% on Tuesday where the show only managed 104,450 against TV2’s M10 Dream Home. Continue reading »

houserules_s1ep1TV3 made the bold move of putting House Rules, from the makers of My Kitchen Rules, up against Mitre10 Dream Home on TV2.  With are reasonably decent marketing campaign in tow, House Rules went head to head with Mitre10 Dream Home last night for the first time but after the dismal ratings it must surely be a matter of time before TV3 concedes defeat once again and shuffles their schedules.

The average audience for Dream Home was up 14% on its debut last week, jumping from 365,950 to 417,780 viewers.  The debut for Dream Home was slightly lower than The Block NZ’s debut last year which saw it pick up an average audience of 367,920 viewers. Continue reading »

house-rulesTV3 announced they are bringing one of the most popular Australian shows at the moment to our screens in July. So, what is it all about?

House Rules is the latest reality series from the makers of My Kitchen Rules and as the title suggests, it’s based around home renovation.

The series sees six teams of two hand over the keys to their houses and let their rival teams transform every room in their house.

Each home will come with a set of ‘House Rules’ (do’s and don’ts basically) set out by the owners for which their rival teams can choose to follow, bend or break. Continue reading »
