Italian Food Safari

FOOD TELEVISION – Wednesdays from 21 April, 7.30pm

Food Safari journeys through the world of the people who taught us how to drink coffee and appreciate good olive oil; those who showed us the simple deliciousness of pizza and pasta, scaloppine and saltimbocca; the fabulous Italians. Maeve O’Meara and Melbourne chef, Guy Grossi travel through urban and regional Australia in search of the best producers, providores, butchers, bakers and chefs whose focus is Italian food. Guy has a particular interest in the history of Italian food culture in Australia so together they set out on a journey to witness how centuries’ old traditions are maintained and passed through generations. Food customs of tomato bottling, making salami and curing meat, cheese making, and, pasta making will be explored and recipes revealed, as families and professional chefs pass these skills to the younger Australian born generation.
