Jamie’s Food Escapes

FOOD TELEVISION – Mondays from 31 December, 12.30pm, 4.30pm, 8.30pm

Jamie Oliver hits the road again for a culinary expedition to six great food destinations a little closer to home. Travelling across Europe and into North Africa, Jamie heads off the tourist track to experience local cultures through their food, searching out fantastic ingredients, meeting extraordinary people, and preparing his own versions of delicious recipes along the way. From truffle and boar hunting in the French Pyrenees to spear fishing off an island near Athens, Jamie attempts to uncover the freshest, most authentic dishes, including the street food of Marrakesh, herring in Sweden, and sweet prawns in Venice.

8:30pm Tuesday, November 30 on TV One

Jamie’s Food Escapes is a brand new series which sees Jamie Oliver turn food tourist as each episode he explores the cuisine of a foreign city or region in Europe and the Mediterranean to discover their vast culinary differences and inspire fresh new recipes in each show.

For most of us a short break means museums, galleries or beaches but for Jamie it’s all about food and he reckons you can learn a lot more about a place from how they cook and eat.

Jamie visits six locations through the series; Marrakesh, Andalucia, Stockholm, Venice, Athens and the Midi Pyrenees region of France.

Beginning in Marrakesh, Jamie creates a beef tangine which he describes “as a sort of stew with attitude. It’s really all about the spices and the slow cooking, giving all the wonderful flavours time to develop.”
