Tonight they meet their Afrikaans families, attend classes at an Afrikaans high school and get a taste of ‘braai’ – the South African version of a barbeque. They also experience traditional, rural life at the coastal retreat of Bulungula.

The students get to know the coloured community, meet some fanatical All Black supporters, learn about HIV and Aids in South Africa, and visit an orphanage.

Our students return to Mdantsane to join the last of their four host families. They teach the poi and the haka, visit the grave of Steve Biko and the playground of Nelson Mandela.
