Prime welcomes the return of Lewis and Hathaway in a brand new series! Tonight, a super intelligent, but incredibly lonely professor is devastated when she discovers that her Heart&Soul internet dating video has somehow found its way onto the subversive media blog, TheBarker.biz. With half her students giggling at the footage on their iPhones, and a slimy former date seeing her distress as a “romantic” opportunity, Miranda returns home – and is found there dead the next morning. In her hand she is clutching a newspaper article about millionaire businessman who has been her nemesis for the last couple of years, proposing to buy up much of her college’s land for housing development. The death appears to be a straightforward suicide, but Lewis and Hathaway quickly make a discovery that suggests otherwise.

Andrea was the founder of the Gifted Child organisation, and responsible for handing out an annual scholarship to gifted teens, with this year’s recipient being the precocious Zoe Suskin. However, Andrea herself was struggling for money, and coincidentally she seemed to have found out a secret about Zoe’s father – publisher, Leon Suskin. The mystery somehow related to a murder which happened over twenty years ago, during the Irish Troubles. Before her own death, Andrea sent Leon a copy of the newly published memoirs of former MI5 Chief, Grace Orde. Tucked between the pages was a mysterious note, “Who killed Mary?” Lewis goes to speak to Orde, but faces a wall of resistance. Meanwhile, Hathaway has to be tested for arsenic poisoning.

Wild Justice

Lewis and Hathaway enter the archaic world of St Gerard’s college, when a visiting female bishop is found dead after drinking poisoned wine. Was she murdered because her liberal views contradict the reactionary religious leaders of the college, or is there something more sinister afoot? When another two deaths occur, both mirroring macabre murders from Jacobean Revenge tragedy, it appears that the killer is knocking out candidates from the election to become Vice Regent of St Gerard’s. But when Innocent learns of a dark secret in one of the suspect’s past, Lewis and Hathaway realise that the motive is much more twisted, and that someone is seeking a bizarre form of wild justice for crimes committed against them over twenty years ago.

Oxford’s last surviving all-female college is throwing a Gaudy for its old girls and bidding farewell to one of its most prominent professors, Esme Ellerby. Ellerby was a leading light in the feminist movement, and gathered together a group of the “brightest and the best” students to live with her at House Beautiful. However, during the Gaudy’s reunion of this golden set, one of them is found lying at the bottom of a set of stairs, murdered. Lewis is unable to shake the feeling that this death is somehow connected to an attack 10 years ago, which left one of the girls’ 15 year-old sister in a coma. Hathaway is keen to keep focused on the case in hand, but seeing how bothered Lewis is, he stays up all night to try and make sense of the old case photos… until another girl is found murdered and Lewis curses himself for taking his eye off the current case.
