Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee

Saturday 20 January, 8.40pm on One

Adapted by The Kumars’ Meera Syal from her acclaimed novel, ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’ is a moving and often funny story about friendship, love and betrayal involving three childhood friends who are now in their thirties.

Sunita’s (Syal) the eldest of the three friends. She was always the ‘super swot’ and was on track to be a high-powered lawyer – until she met her husband Akaash (played by Syal’s real-life husband and Kumars co-star Sanjeev Bhaskar) and failed her university finals. Now she has two children and an unfulfilling job.
Chila, the baby of the gang, has been practising to be the perfect wife all her life. Now she’s finally bagged the man of her dreams, the good-looking millionaire, Deepak Sharma. Tania (Laila Rouass) is the only member of the gang who’s broken free from her roots and left her community behind. She was always ambitious and has made a successful career for herself in the media.

All three women are at a crossroads in life, but friendship has always held them together. That is, until Tania is given the big break she has been waiting for and is asked to make a film about love and marriage in the Asian community. She uses her friends as subjects, but isn’t prepared for the explosive results.
