lorde-grammysThe Grammy Awards haven’t screened in New Zealand for a long time but yesterday’s show which saw Lorde pick up two gongs proved that the numbers are there, not only in primetime, but in the middle of the day.

Originally scheduled to screen in the evening on TV One, the live broadcast of the 56th Grammy Awards drew an average audience of 226,400 viewers between 2pm and 5pm for TV2 and 289,310 viewers for the last part of the broadcast from 5pm.  The delayed coverage drew an average audience of 182,040 viewers. No prizes for guessing who…

Not having the biggest music awards show on their subscription based service, Sky have now added the Brit Awards to their line up, meaning Lorde’s opportunity to scoop up some more gongs will be able to be seen live here as well.

The BRIT Awards will screen express from the UK on UKTV Thursday 20 February at 8.30pm, giving SKY subscribers the chance to see whether Kiwi pop-phenomenon Lorde can add a BRIT to her ever-increasing list of achievements.

lordeTVNZ has been unable to secure online streaming rights for the Grammys, so instead has decided to broadcast the Awards twice – live on TV2, then again in prime time on TV ONE as originally planned.

Head of Television, Jeff Latch, says the company’s first preference had been to stream the awards live on TVNZ Ondemand, which was the ideal platform for daytime live events. However the attempt to get the rights was not successful, which meant the full television broadcast of the show was originally scheduled in prime time on TV ONE so the maximum number of people would get to see it.
