Love Soup

UKTV – Sundays from 10 May, 9.30pm

Love Soup takes an entertaining and provocative look at romance and relationships in the 21st Century: quirkily absurd, often bizarre – always unpredictable.

Is it possible that somewhere out there a perfect partner exists for each of us? If there is an answer, it is sadly lost on Alice Chenery…

Following on from Series One, Alice is still unattached and undaunted as she continues to navigate the treacherous waters of Love, in a world where sense and sensitivity seem to have become largely unfashionable.

Alice is an account manager for a large perfume company in a London department store. Milly and Cleo are her sweet, ever-so slightly deranged colleagues, keen to see the caring, but somewhat reticent Alice find the happiness she deserves – and not above fighting each other in pursuit of their own. They support and commiserate each other through the contemporary minefield of finding the perfect man…

This highly unusual series – very funny and yet deeply poignant – charts the highs and lows of Alice’s continuing encounters with the opposite sex, as she struggles to find love… and happiness.

Starring: Tamsin Greig (Wing, Black Books, Doctor Who); Sheridan Smith (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Grownups) and Montserrat Lombard (Roman’s Empire, No Angels).

Summer Nights Of Comedy: Love Soup

UKTV – Starts Wednesday 5 December, 8.30pm

Based on the age-old idea that there’s just one Mr or Mrs Right out there for everyone, David Renwick’s romantic comedy series follows the parallel lives of two single people looking for love. Alice Chenery is an account manager for a perfume counter in a London department store, struggling to maintain a flat she cannot afford. Gil Raymond is a successful American comedy writer who has fled his home country in search of artistic integrity and a lasting relationship. Each episode observes their hopes and fears as they try to remain sane in a world from which they each feel increasingly excluded. Gil and Alice are perfect for each other, but how will they ever know?

Stars: Tamsin Greig (Green Wing and Doctor Who), Michael Landes (Final Destination 2 and The Wonder Years)

Tuesday 23 January, 11.05pm on One

‘Love Soup’ shows the parallel lives of two single people – Alice Chenery (Tamsin Greig, ‘Green Wing’, ‘Black Books’) and Gil Raymond (Michael Landes, ‘The Wonder Years’) – looking for love.

Based on the age-old idea that there’s just one Mr or Mrs Right out there for everyone, the romantic comedy sees the hopes and fears of the pair as they try to remain sane in a world from which they each feel increasingly excluded.
From failed dates and over-friendly neighbours to sexually promiscuous workmates, both Gil and Alice have bizarrely similar social situations yet their paths do not seem destined to cross. They’re perfect for each other but how will they ever know?

In episode one, Alice finds putting her flat on the market is fraught with more problems than she imagined. When she recruits the help of a tall, handsome stranger, events take an unexpected turn. Gil, meanwhile, cannot believe the chaos that a stray remark to his neighbours has caused, and his promising relationship with an attractive TV producer is about to come badly unstuck.
