Make Your Politician Work

Two of Parliament’s youngest MPs are set to feature in a new local TV show next year.

Nikki Kaye and Jacinda Ardern, both Auckland Central rivals, will take part in the new show Make Your Politician Work, which is being produced by Great Southern Television.

No official word has been released yet as to the complete list of our politicians taking part but the Herald is reporting that the two Aucklanders will feature.

Other MPs linked to the show are the Green Party’s Keith Locke and Labour’s Brendon Burns and Trevor Mallard.

Christchurch Central MP Burns commented on the show as a platform for the city’s issues: “It’s going to be an opportunity to show the rest of New Zealand some of the issues that the people of Christchurch are still going through as a result of the [September] earthquake.”

“I’ll be experiencing some of the issues that people are facing, some of the hardships of having to use portaloos, living in damaged houses.”

Executive producer Rachel Gardner says the show will not be about stunts.

“It’s putting the politicians in touch with the policies they make and the people affected by that policy,” she said.

“It’s taking them to the coal face and, in the process, showing the audience that politicians are real people.

“It’s a factual show, so it’s observational, and documentary style.”

Eight episodes are planned with a different politician featuring in each.
