Masterchef

With MKRNZ ending last week, it’s time to look at how the two series performed going head to head against each other throughout the week.

TV One’s new cooking series drew a higher total average audience of 367,311 viewers per episode compared to TV3’s home renovation show The Block NZ which only drew 293,119.

Welcome to the two-hour grand finale of Masterchef…and we are LIVE! (excuse the lack of details at some points, its hard to do it live!)

Here are my final super scientific Masterchef rankings:

This is probably the easiest ranking of the whole season:

1st: Kasey and Karena: Clear favourites’ from day one, and two hours away from being crowned Masterchef Champions. I hope. If not, please understand if this recap gets grumpy!

2nd: Jaimie and Bec: I have to give it to these two – they are fighters. If anyone in the competition could have a blinder and creep past Kasey and Karena, it would be these two. The problem is, it doesn’t seem like the public have warmed to them. Would people buy their cookbook? Would Countdown want Jaimie to sell their products?

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Kasey and Karena: While they did not get the best feedback last night, I doubt they were overtaken in points by the other two duos.

2nd: Jaimie and Bec: With the best comments last night, we can assume they may have clawed a point or two back from Kasey and Karena’s lead and at least given themselves an advantage over Nikki and Jordan.

3rd: Nikki and Jordan: These two fighters need a stunner today. I hope they cook with beef regularly.

The general consensus on the Masterchef NZ Facebook page is that Jaimie and Bec should have been eliminated last week, with most people hoping for a Kasey/Karena versus Nikki/Jordan final. I would tend to agree.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Kasey and Karena: Sitting on 19/20, these ladies have a three point lead over their competitors. That should be enough to see them into the final, and boy do they deserve it.   These two remind me of Aaron from last year’s Masterchef NZ who was clearly the favourite/one-to-beat right from the beginning.

2nd=: Nikki and Jordan and Jaimie and Bec: You could make arguments for why both of these duos deserve to be in next weeks final. I want Nikki and Jordan to make it, but I am sure a lot of people want to see Jaimie and Bec in the final so may the best duo win.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Kasey and Karena: It will take a lot for me to change these ladies from top of the rankings. Another impressive cooking display, plus, they crack me up so that gets them some bonus points.

2nd: Nikki and Jordan: After rave reviews from their cook book inspired dishes last night, these two are sitting pretty for a finals spot unless a disaster throws them over the cliff tonight. While I don’t think Nikki would handle the stress of a real restaurant kitchen, her and Jordan definitely have an eye and the talent to create delicious food.

3rd: Jaimie and Bec: Last night was anything but a good night in the kitchen for this duo, and coupled with Josh’s obvious dislike of Jaimie, the safe money is on these two heading back to the South Island to visit their kids tonight. Side note: Jaimie’s passionate desire to make the final is the same reason I don’t want her to make it. I don’t know what that says about me. I am a bad person. There, I said it.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Kasey and Karena: These girls are back on top after a few shaky weeks. It would be an injustice if they were not in the finals.

2nd: Jaimie and Bec: This duo has surprised me in the past few weeks, and they have been the most consistent pairing by far. I think they have the best shot at making the finals, after Kasey and Karena.

3rd: Nikki and Jordan: I really like these two, however I think that Nikki has become a weak link. She cannot handle the pressure as well as the other contestants, and she is letting Jordan down. I think they will be the next to go.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st – Kasey and Karena: These two have come back strong in the past few challenges, and head into tonight’s challenge as one of the two top teams.  Plus, they are hilarious, so that gets them the top spot.

2nd – Jaimie and Bec: These two ladies clearly want to win and they have excellent teamwork.  This has helped them create some great dishes in the recent weeks and the judges seem impressed.

3rd – Tanisha and Verena: I still think Tanisha and Verena could take out the competition but they head into tonight’s challenge after underwhelming in the kitchen last night.

4th – Nikki and Jordan: Nikki and Jordan did not impress with their Indonesian cuisine last night, and Nikki is becoming a bit of a weak link.  I really hope they can pick it up tonight and stay in the competition.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Tanisha and Verena

2nd: Karina and Kasey

3rd equal: Jaimie and Bec and Nikki and Jordan

Tonight the remaining four duos tackle an Asian cuisine challenge at Club Med in Bali.  Jordan’s specialty is Asian cuisine so perhaps she will be at an advantage.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings:

1st: Tanisha and Verena

2nd: Karina and Kasey

3rd equal: Jaimie and Bec and Nikki and Jordan

5th: Trudie and Shelley

From now I think it comes down to each challenge.  If the challenge is up their alley, the duos will be at an advantage.  It is still anyone’s game.  I am glad we don’t have any dud pairings left.

My super scientific Masterchef rankings*:

1 (no change) Tanisha and Verena

2 (up from 3): Karina and Kasey

3rd equal: Jaimie and Bec, Nikki and Jordan and Trudie and Shelley (I can not separate these three duos).

*I think that any of these duos could win.  The competition is so hot.
