Tom Cotter has been appointed to the newly created role of CIPO (Chief Information and Product Officer) for MediaWorks.

The role is part of a new service delivery structure that combines both technology operations and technology product development into one department. Led by the CIPO, this department is responsible for the delivery and design of all IT and IT-related products across the Group.

Liz Fraser has been appointed to a Group Executive role as Group Head of Revenue for MediaWorks.

The new role is charged with growing Group revenue, and creates a single interface for customers across MediaWorks’ range of assets; television, radio, digital, social, product integration and sponsorships.

I have been watching with much interest at how Sky, TVNZ and TV3 have reacted to Slingshot’s Global Mode product and their desire to spend money advertising it.

It brings me back to the early 2000’s when the music industry began to hit the panic button over piracy and rather than invest in legal alternatives, they whined about the problem and threw money at litigation. Eventually, someone with some commonsense came to the astounding realisation that customers would actually pay money for the digital service and now we have wonderful services like Spotify. As a result, we certainly spend more annually on music than we previously did and we have access to a wider range of content. Continue reading »


MediaWorks is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Weldon as Group Chief Executive.
Weldon is the former CEO of the New Zealand Stock Exchange, and led the NZX through its formative years.

MediaWorks Group Chief Executive Officer, Sussan Turner has resigned after 30 years with the company.

Ms Turner has headed New Zealand’s largest media organisation for four-and-a-half years, and guided the company through last year’s receivership and debt restructuring.
