7:30pm Sunday, November 27 on TV2

Mike (Billy Gardell) is feeling the pressure to ask Molly (2011 Emmy Award-winner Melissa McCarthy) a super-sized question in the season finale of TV2’s super-sized comedy Mike & Molly, screening tonight at 7:30pm.

We first met Mike and Molly about six months ago at an overeaters’ anonymous meeting. He was a cop looking to shed some pounds; she was an overweight school teacher who was instantly smitten. Since then we have seen them go through all the ‘first’ things that every couple has to go through – first meeting with the family, first Christmas, first attempt at sleeping through the other’s Earth-shattering snoring.

As season one of this hit new show draws to a close, Mike is put in an awkward situation when he is asked whether he sees wedding bells with Molly. Will all of these ‘firsts’ culminate in a question of forever?

From the hilarious minds of Two And A Half Men’s Mark Roberts and Chuck Lorre, Mike & Molly is a romantic comedy about a working-class Chicago couple who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.

Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell, You, Me And Dupree) is a good-hearted cop who sincerely wants to lose weight. While speaking at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting, Mike meets Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy, Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who?), a likeable teacher with a good sense of humour about her curves.

The show was been warmly welcomed in America because of its likeable stars, who the audience can relate to.

Gardell: “Viewers love that they look like people they know. They can go, `You know what? I’m like that!'”

While appearing on the show has left the stars open to comments about their weight, stand-up comic Gardell told American TV Guide he can handle the jokes.

“You can’t be politically correct and funny, man. They’re going to say far worse to me at the Friday late show in Minneapolis.”

This week, Molly thinks Mike’s no longer interested when he declines her invitation to come inside after their third date, but are their signals just crossed?

8:00pm Sunday, May 1 on TV2

From the hilarious minds of Two And A Half Men’s Mark Roberts and Chuck Lorre, Mike & Molly is a romantic comedy about a working-class Chicago couple who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.

Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell, You, Me And Dupree) is a good-hearted cop who sincerely wants to lose weight. While speaking at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting, Mike meets Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy, Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who?, Curb Your Enthusiasm), a likeable teacher with a good sense of humour about her curves.

For Gardell, who’s known for his supporting roles in the comedy world, landing a lead role in a sitcom was more than a little overwhelming. “I’m used to going ‘Wonk, wonk!’ and the audience laughs and I leave the room,” he revealed to the American TV Guide. “But I’m trying to hang in, you know?”

But his co-star, McCarthy, believes the pair will bring a mould-breaking freshness to TV screens that viewers will love. “He’s not a superhero crimefighter, and I’m not doing some sort of molecular blabbity-blab,” she says.

Molly lives with her sexy older sister, Victoria (Katy Mixon, My Name Is Earl, Two And A Half Men), and their mother, Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz, Pushing Daisies, Desperate Housewives), both of whom flaunt their effortless figures while indulging their healthy appetites right in front of her.

Mike also faces temptation at the diner he frequents with his partner, Officer Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson, Transformers), a thin, fast-talking wise-guy. They have both become friends with a Senegalese waiter, Samuel (Nyambi Nyambi, Law & Order), to whom dieting is a foreign concept. Mike and Molly found each other in the most unexpected of places. Now, they’re about to find out where their quest for companionship will take them.

With two shockingly normal-seeming people fronting the sitcom, McCarthy is certain the show will resonate with its audience. “I love to watch people trying their hardest fumble and bumble,” says the plus-sized actress. “To me, the humour is always in someone who’s not leading the perfect shiny TV life – because I don’t know anyone living that life.”
