Movies 101 And A Profile Of

Movies 101 and A Profile Of…
Tuesdays, 8:30pm and 9:00pm

Described by Variety Magazine as “one of the shows to watch”, Movies 101 gets closer to Hollywood’s biggest names, and delves deeper, than any other interview show. Movies 101 is followed each week by A Profile Of…, a series of docos profiling some of cinema’s greats. Movies 101 and A Profile Of… start Tuesday 12 February, at 8:30pm and 9:00pm respectively, on TVNZ Showcase, on TVNZ 6.

Hosted by NYU Professor and Hollywood insider, Richard Brown, Movies 101 is a series of frank and revealing, yet thoroughly entertaining interviews. Brown speaks to Tinsel-town’s A-listers about their life, career, fame, relationships, and family. He has been interviewing the movie industry’s finest for over 30 years, and knows how to get stars to open up and reveal things about themselves that no-one else could.
While other shows might claim to interview Hollywood’s “A List”, Movies 101 actually does it. Throughout the series, big name follows big name. Series one features Martin Scorsese, George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Kline, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Connelley and Julianne Moore.

Filmed in front of an audience of film buffs at The Scherbel Centre in New York and Wadsworth Theatre in Los Angeles, Movies 101 has generated huge press interest in the United States, with features in Variety, TV Week, New York Times, LA Times and Entertainment Week.

Following Movies 101 each week is a doco profiling some of cinema’s classics. The series begins with A Profile Of: Hitchcock – the Early Years, which looks at Hitchcock’s breakthrough in silent films and acclaimed thrillers such as The 39 Steps. It considers the influences which prompted his departure for a new life in America in 1939.

The second doco in the A Profile Of series is A Profile of: Oliver Twist. This doco looks at David Lean’s lavish BAFTA-nominated adaption of Oliver Twist, one of Charles Dickens’ enduringly popular tales. It features interviews with Sir Ronald Neame and Sir Anthony Havelock-Allan (Producers), Guy Green (Cinematographer), Oswald Morris (Camera Operator) and Kay Walsh (starring actress).

The following week A Profile Of brings viewers A Profile of: A Tale of Two Cities. Other titles in the series include: The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp; A Town Like Alice; The Battle of the River Plate; and The Red Shoes. A Profile Of… follows Movies 101 Tuesdays on TVNZ Showcase on TVNZ 6.
