Rat Pee Soda, Hidden Nasties & Car Skip

It’s all cops and swabbers tonight as Adam and Jamie turn dirt detectives to get to the bottom of two frighteningly filthy myths, while Tory, Grant and Jessi skip the lake fantastic with a manic movie myth. First up Adam and Jamie get to the bottom of an unsanitary urban legend. In ‘Rat Pee Soda’ they test the myth that soda cans are contaminated by rat pee, and that those rodent remains can kill. Then they go on a grime wave testing the myth that everyday items are dirtier than your toilet seat. In ‘Hidden Nasties’ they get the swab done, finding out if there are more ghastly germs on everyday items like cell phones and keyboards than there are on the old porcelain throne. And the results of our grime scene investigation will surprise you. Meanwhile Tory, Grant and Jessi cut to the chase.

In the 80′s movie ‘Speed Zone’ the driver of an Italian super car needs to make a quick getaway from the cops, and after a high-speed chase he turns off the road and towards a pond, it would seem he’s trapped, but instead he puts the pedal to the metal, and speeds the car towards the lake…whereupon it bounces across the surface, like a skipping stone and then continues to drive on the other side! But is this fantasy or stone cold fact? Because nobody is volunteering for a high speed dip, Grant our resident control geek takes over, and with one remote controlled super car ready to go the team have only one option – take it to location, get it up to speed and drive it into a lake! After their first test it seems this may not be as simple as the movie made out, but our Mythbusters never leave any stone unturned so tune in to see whether this myth will sink or skim!

Unarmed, Unharmed & Bus Jump

Tonight Adam and Jamie return to the Old Wild West for a quick draw gun-slinging story, while Grant, Tory and Jessi hop on board the ‘Mythbus’ for another manic myth from the movie ‘Speed’. Hang onto your ten-gallon hats because this show won’t go below 50! In Unarmed, Unharmed Adam and Jamie ask a classic Western question. Any good guy gunslinger worthy of a sheriff’s badge could supposedly disarm the bad guy with a single sharp shootin’ shot. But was it really possible and would you really leave him and any bystanders totally unharmed? Then, Grant, Tory and Jessi take on another tall tale from Tinseltown.

In Bus Jump the movie Speed is once again under the microscope. In a key scene Keanu and Sandra successfully jump their bus over a 50 foot gap in an unfinished freeway. To find out if this is actually possible, the team downsize. They re-create the classic scene in a perfect 1/12th scale. They take into account the freeway, the bus’ weight and speed and even gravity! And of course out on the runway at Alameda, with a remote control full sized bus, they can’t resist ramping it up. Literally!

Antacid Jail Break / Driving In The Dark

On tonight’s episode of Mythbusters the lads tackle two highly dangerous tales from the wrong side of the tracks. First up is ‘Antacid Jail Break’. The premise sounds preposterous: that a wily prisoner could explode his way out of a solid jail cell using nothing more than a huge plastic bag, tap water, and 10 years worth of stashed antacid tablets! As a specialist team begins building a steel-reinforced concrete cell, Adam and Jamie discover in small-scale that this myth is not so far-fetched. The pressure builds as the test tanks crack; even Jamie’s dog Zero is spooked by the awesome power of the humble antacid. When the testing goes full-scale, the spritz hits the fan as thousands of tablets and gallons of water combine to crack real bricks and mortar.

The show is spectacular and the results are amazing in the most incredible jail break they’ve ever attempted! Then, is a crime more discrete when it’s done in the dark? That’s what Grant, Jessi and Tory aim to find out in ‘Driving in the Dark’. The myth is that modern-day smugglers have tried crossing borders in dark remote places by hitting the gas and killing the headlights. But how far could they get before killing themselves? No streetlights, no headlights, not even a moon; and all at high speed with the cops on your tail! Is there a secret to driving fast in the dark, or will the team crash and burn in its struggle to smuggle?

Dumpster Diving / The Squeeze

On tonight’s Episode of Mythbusters the team plumb the depths and hit great heights with a double diving extravaganza! First up Adam and Jamie jump in with Dumpster Diving. It’s a well worn action movie cliche – after a roof top chase, the hero is cornered with nowhere else to go. But luckily there’s a convenient dumpster on the street below. So he takes the dive, lands safely, dusts himself off and makes his escape. But is a trash landing really a guaranteed getaway or is this just another example of Hollywood hype? Meanwhile Kari, Grant and Tory take on a ye olde deep-sea diving myth in ‘The Squeeze’. According to legend, early diving suits had a flaw, whereby a failure in the air supply could cause a drastic depressurisation.

The story goes that the resulting pressure differential would be so severe that the diver’s entire body would be forced into his helmet by the weight of the water outside the suit. So to find out if there’s any truth to this macabre maritime myth or if it’s just plain pulp fiction Kari, Grant and Tory start out small scale. Obviously nobody wants to volunteer for a briny death, so they create the tiniest Imahara ever.

Mini Myth Mayhem

It’s ‘Mini Myth Mayhem’ on tonight’s episode as the team fire off six quick fire fan requested fables. First up Adam and Jamie post a coconut. Yip, viewers have heard that it’s possible to send a coconut with an engraved address through the mail. Then in ‘Shooting Match’ our dynamic duo fire up with some sharp shooting to test if it’s possible to light a match with a bullet. Next we see if it’s possible to dip your digits in molten lead and would you really wet the bed if your hand was placed in a bowl of water? And finally it’s the story the team unanimously describe as the grossest most gag inducing myth of all time, ‘Earwax Candle’. Using the movie Shrek as inspiration a fan wants to know if it’s possible to make a functioning flammable candle from earwax. Watch in horror as the team collect, melt and mould a birthday cake sized candle from human earwax!

Crash & Burn And Rocket Man

First up Adam and Jamie test a classic that’s been around in tinsel-town since the motorcar was invented. Picture this scene – two cars are having a high speed chase deep in the countryside. They’re overtaking, undertaking and generally weaving around like maniacs. It’s only a matter of time before one of them loses control. And that’s when disaster strikes. Unable to slow down or steer, one of the cars scoots off the side of the road and plunges into a ravine below. Down and down it tumbles, bouncing off the cliff face until it reaches the bottom. Then it explodes into a huge ball of fire. It’s no surprise that the guys drive straight into the deep end by simply driving a whole bunch of cars off a 150 foot cliff onto a quarry floor below. Will they get that fireball they’re looking for? The Crash & Burn fable has MythBusters written all over it! Meanwhile in Rocket Man, Kari, Tory and Grant also ramp the spectacle up to 11, as they test an extraordinary story about the world’s first rocketeer.

Dirty Car Cash And The Morning After

First up Adam and Jamie get down and dirty with the myth that a muddy motorcar gets better mileage than its clean cousin. According to the theory by adding a layer of crud to your car you create a ‘golf ball’ like effect cutting down drag and reducing fuel consumption. So to put this ‘Dirty Car’ myth to the test Adam and Jamie get their hands dirty testing the fuel efficiency of a filthy automobile and then a clean machine. Meanwhile Kari, Grant and Tory are hitting the sauce to test the old drinking adage ‘Stick to beer you’re in the clear, beer then liquor ever sicker’. In ‘the morning after’ myth, they’re comparing hangovers to find out if it really is true that your hangover will be worse if you mix your drinks. We don’t want to give anything away but Grant and Tory take their scientific duties very seriously. So which hangover will turn out worse? Who will vomit first, Tory or Grant? Does drinking beer and spirits really leave you feeling sicker? Tune in to find out.

Series

Tonight it’s an evolution revolution as the Mythbusters team takes five fan favourites and focuses on a fascinating new facet for each. First up, Adam and Jamie try to raise the roof. Literally. When they first fired a water heater through a house, it was undeniably spectacular but fans weren’t happy. The house the guys used was a bungalow and most homes in the US are a little taller to say the least! So due to fan demand, the guys return to this story with an extra storey to find out if a water heater rocket can really blow up through your roof if it starts in the basement. Next up, the Mythbusters think outside the box. In Car Roof Cling, Adam and Jamie get a grip Hollywood style as they test if you could really hold on to a moving car through zigs, zags and even sudden stops.

Meanwhile, Kari, Tory and Grant test another myth from the movie Wanted. Having busted the idea that bullets can curve through the air, they’re taking the story up a notch. And finally they’re ending with a bang. Remember Snowplough Split? It was Alaskan anecdote that was ‘snow joke’ – a car allegedly ploughed into a plough and was split completely in half from bumper to fender. But when the guys put this to the test, they found it was totally and utterly busted. But fans want more! You see, back then Kari, Tory and Grant only tested the circumstances of the myth – they didn’t replicate the results…..until now.

Tonight the team dives into hells kitchen to test two frightening potential kitchen catastrophes with a quirky look at a myth that might be on the nose: can cheese be used as canon fodder? First, Adam and Jamie fire up a full flaming run away ‘Grease Fire’ on a kitchen stove to see if throwing a cup of water onto it will create a 30 foot fireball. After some small scale flame throwing they build and move their “extreme kitchen” to a desolate spot and test drive a number of scary fire ball scenarios. Meanwhile, Kari, Tory and Grant start off by putting their heads in an oven to see if you really can set off C4 in a microwave. Their myth was instigated by the movie Gross Point Blank.

In a famous scene a bad guy is engaged in a shoot out in a convenience store, he puts an intricately wired block of C4 into the store microwave, sets it to 60 seconds and runs out. As the clock hits zero the bomb explodes. But is it movie make-believe or a genuine way to set off a C4? The team take their ovens and their theories down to the firing range where Grant gets swept away by the bomb squad’s cute-as robot. Then Grant, Kari and Tory investigate a seafaring food myth from long ago. The story goes that in 1840 a certain Captain Coe was fighting a losing sea battle and ran out of canon balls. So he hit upon the plan of using Edam cheese! Allegedly it shredded his opponent’s sails and won the day for Coe. The Mythbusters set sail and fire a broadside of cheese into a sail to see if ‘Cheese Cannonballs’ have a whiff of truth about them?

On this cold and blustery episode, Adam and Jamie bet the house on a highly contentious hurricane survival tale in ‘Hurricane Windows’. The myth contends that a house will suffer significantly less damage in a major storm if all the windows are actually left open. Small-scale tests at a nearby NASA research facility provide some very clear data, so it’s off to The University of Florida to test a bigger house with the world’s largest portable hurricane simulator. The Mythbusters huff and puff their way towards a spectacular conclusion: is there really a difference between ‘windows open’ and ‘windows closed’? Meanwhile, Kari, Grant and Tory tackle two frigid fables involving liquid nitrogen.

In ‘Shattered Head’, they try to recreate a famous scene from a horror movie where the villain dunks the victim’s head in LN2 for five seconds, then shatters it on the counter. Skulls, brains and ‘smash-hammers’ are all deployed to make or break this myth. Kari survives potential suffocation and an unintended depilation, admitting at the end that nothing she’s ever seen on the show was quite as disgusting as this. Now that’s a recommendation! Then in ‘Frozen Tree’, they investigate a very unusual urban legend that, if true, could potentially ruin your Christmas. The myth goes that a huge amount of liquid nitrogen leaked onto a Christmas tree, causing the water inside the trunk to snap-freeze, expand and explode the tree. With their customary diligence, flair for danger and a whole truckload of LN2, the team sets out to confirm or bust this incredible tale.
