4:00pm Saturday, March 20 on TV One

ONE Sport’s Toni Street can’t wait to get courtside to present this year’s ANZ Netball Championship, but she’s predicting quite a different competition and a totally different result than last year.

“It would have hurt the Kiwi teams big time seeing two Aussie teams in the final, I can’t see that happening two years in a row.”

Street brings coverage from round one of the ANZ Championship – the Northern Mystics play the Adelaide Thunderbirds – and will be joined by commentators Rikki Swannell and Julie Coney, who will be calling the game from 4pm.

As for a prediction, all Street will say is that it won’t be as clear cut this year. “Last year the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic was overflowing with Silver Ferns, this year there’s a much more even spread of the top players across the Kiwi teams. I think that will be really exciting and open the competition right up.”

Street believes the team to watch out for will be the Northern Mystics: “they have scored a few key Silver Ferns and will be a totally different team to last year.”

12:00pm Saturday, March 20 on TV One

It’s finals weekend in the Louis Vuitton Trophy and it’s LIVE on TV ONE. Geoff Bryan will host the yachting and Peter Lester will join Martin Tasker in the commentary box for a big weekend.

Veteran yachting commentator Tasker says the fortnight of yachting action on the Waitemata is more than the competition for the Louis Vuitton Trophy. “This is the first regatta since the 33rd America’s Cup was decided in Valencia last month, so effectively this event is the start of the 34th America’s Cup,” he says.
“The teams and sailors will be parading their talents to would-be sponsors, which means competition will be fierce.

“With even boats and short courses, there will be plenty of action to see from Auckland’s North Head, but if you want a better view, the best seat in the grandstand will be in front of your television, the whole finals weekend will be LIVE on TV ONE.”

ONE Sport’s LIVE coverage of the Louis Vuitton Trophy includes:

Saturday 20 March, 12pm: ONE Sport Sailing: Louis Vuitton Trophy
Sunday 21 March, 12pm: ONE Sport Sailing: Louis Vuitton Trophy

12:30pm Friday, February 5 on TV One

ONE Sport brings viewers two days of LIVE coverage of the biggest sporting party of the year. Round three of the IRB Sevens World Series is the NZI Sevens from the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

After a disappointing series last year, New Zealand is out to regain its title and has started the series well by winning the first two tournaments in Dubai and South Africa – and the Kiwis are now on top of the points table.

“With Sevens now an Olympic sport, many other countries are starting to put big resources into developing their own teams so the competition is getting bigger, faster and harder,” says ONE Sport’s award-winning director, Steve Jamieson.

“The New Zealand team is desperate to win the Wellington tournament in 2010, especially after their controversial loss last year when England were declared winners by scoring a try after the final whistle.”

Veteran sport broadcaster Geoff Bryan will host the coverage, and the commentary line-up is just as solid – Keith Quinn, Andrew Saville, Greg Clarke, Nigel Stammer-Smith, John McBeth, Willie Lose, and guest commentary from former Sevens star, Dallas Seymour.

Coverage on TV ONE includes:
Friday 5 February – 12.30pm to 4pm, 4.55pm to 6pm, and 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
Saturday 6 February – midday to 6pm and 7pm to 9.45pm Finals Day

The TVNZ specialist Sevens website, www.tvnz.co.nz/rugby-sevens is LIVE now and will be streaming the global Sevens feed, which will continue when the coverage breaks on TV ONE for ONE News.

Recently married TVNZ sport presenter, Street, is expecting more than just great tennis in 2010: “The player lists are the most exciting they’ve been in years. Not only do we have a host of top 30 players in both tournaments, but a lot of the players are also real characters.”

The 2010 ASB Classic boasts a world-class line-up, including current and former top 20 players, along with a good mix of new and familiar faces, and plenty of rising stars. As in previous years the women’s action gets underway first, running from Monday 4 to Saturday 9 January.

Having covered the tennis for the last three summers, Street says there’s a lot more to watch than the ball. “I’m really looking forward to the entertainment side of the tennis in the New Year, I’m pretty sure it will be the best yet. Expect lots of surprises.”
