Playhouse Disney

Playhouse Disney Channel has awarded 15 Australian and New Zealand preschools, kindergartens, childcare centres, play centres and groups, learning centres and dance groups with a community grant in support of their outstanding contribution to the community.

The grant recipients were recognised by parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who shared heart-warming stories of how their preschool-focused community group developed and supported the interests and wellbeing of local children. 

The groups are set to receive a $2,000 grant from Playhouse Disney Channel, what is intended to assist in the expansion, development and commencement of projects that will benefit children between 0 to 6 years old. 

The ‘Handy Manny Community Grants’ were inspired by the Emmy-nominated ‘Handy Manny’, which airs on Playhouse Disney Channel. The animated series, which is set in the multicultural and multi-generational community of Sheetrock Hills, features ‘Handy Garcia’, a hardworking handyman with a team of talking tools. Manny spends his days helping his neighbours by taking on their fix-it projects.

Together, Manny and his tools help preschoolers learn about cooperation, problem solving and friendship. The series is designed to infuse preschool viewers with an enthusiasm to take on life’s challenges and to make things work.

PLAYHOUSE DISNEY– Wednesday 22 April, 10am-1pm

PLAYHOUSE DISNEY – Weekdays from 5 January, 7pm

Join us throughout the week for an hour’s worth of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” with Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang as they embark on a week of new quests and challenges.  Plus as an added bonus you get to watch new episodes premiering on Fridays throughout January – only on Playhouse Disney!

Have you got an ‘idea emergency’?  There’s only one place to go… the ‘idea warehouse’ of course, where you’ll meet the “Imagination Movers”!

“Imagination Movers” features Rich, Scott, Dave and Smitty as everyday guys and brain-stormers who are working hard to solve “idea emergencies” in their Idea Warehouse, a place of infinite inspiration.

Kids will love the “Imagination Movers” energetic, rock and roll style of music so get ready for lots of singing and dancing every Sunday for two back to back brand new episodes!  New episodes premiering Sundays in January on Playhouse Disney include:

TREASURE OF THE WAREHOUSE, 6.30pm

Brick Logan, a world famous treasure hunter, arrives at the Warehouse with a treasure map his Grandpappy left him that shows where treasure was buried in the Movers Warehouse.  He shows them a map where there is an X next to a circle.  The Movers start looking for circles in the Warehouse.  They look at the map again… there’s also a rock.  They go to Knit Knot’s office and check out Rocky.  Nope, not there.  They realise it is Circle Rock they’re looking for and that’s in the Jungle Room!  They find the location and uncover the treasure.  It turns out to be photos of Brick’s Grandpappy as a boy… the best treasure he could ask for.

WAYNE DANCE, 7pm

Nina brings her friend, Wayne, over to meet the Movers.  He is a singer doing a show in town that night.  He is nervous as he is supposed to dance in the show but he doesn’t know how to dance, so the Movers try to teach him.  They introduce him to the various styles of dance but he is too clumsy.  Rich draws a dance diagram on the ground for Wayne to follow to no avail, so Dave makes him remote control dancing shoes, which work great until Dave sets the speed to “fast” and they spin out of control.  Finally, they take him to the Moving Room to learn to move comfortably.   By the time he leaves, he can groove with ease.  Now he can sing and dance at his show!

Leading up to the New Year, Playhouse Disney is excited to be screening some of your most beloved movies.

But first, to kick off the movie marathon, there will be the premiere of a brand new “Handy Manny” episode at 6.30pm.  Entitled “Have a Handy New Year (Parts 1 and 2)”, Mr. Lopart gets involved in the town’s New Year’s Eve preparations in order to take his mind off his mother not being home for the celebration.  When his involvement creates many mishaps, Manny and the tools step in to fix things…only to have Mr. Lopart save the day with a creative way to replace the broken New Year’s Eve ball.

The movie party time line up consists of:

CINDERELLA 3, 7pm

What if the slipper didn’t fit Cinderella?  What if her Stepsister Anastasia tried to take her place at the altar?  In this romantic and often hilarious sequel to Walt Disney’s classic “Cinderella,” Evil Stepmother steals Fairy Godmother’s magic wand.  Bent on revenge, she uses the wand to turn back time, making the slipper fit her daughter Anastasia’s significantly larger foot.  As mother and daughters race off to a royal wedding, Cinderella is left with nothing.  Will Cinderella and the Prince still find true love together?

LITTLE MERMAID, 8.15pm

Ariel, youngest daughter of King Triton, is dissatisfied with life in the sea.  She longs to be with the humans above the surface and is often caught in arguments with her father over those “barbaric fish-eaters”.  She goes to meet Ursula, the Sea Witch, to strike a deal but Ursula has bigger plans for this mermaid and her father.

TINKER BELL, 9.30pm

Tinker Bell thinks her fairy talent isn’t as special as the other fairies’ talents.  But when Tink tries to change who she is, she creates nothing but disaster!  With encouragement from her friends, Tink learns the key to solving her problems lies in her unique tinker abilities…and discovers that when she’s true to herself, magical things can happen.

101 DALMATIANS, 10.45pm

The fun starts the moment Dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, settle into their owners’ flat to become proud parents of 15 precocious pups.  It’s one big happy dog family until the outrageous Cruella De Vil kidnaps the puppies along with every other Dalmatian in the city!  Now it’s up to Pongo and Perdita, using the magic of “The Twilight Bark” to unite the entire animal population in a thrilling mission to help the courageous pups outsmart their evil captor.

AN AMERICAN TAIL, 12am

Fievel is a young Russian mouse separated from his parents on the way to America, a land he thinks is without cats.  When he arrives alone in the New World, he keeps up hope, searching for his family, making new friends and running and dodging the cats he thought he’d be rid of.

CHARLOTTE’S WEB 2: WILBUR’S GREAT ADVENTURE, 1.15am

Wilbur the pig knows how important friendship is – he learned that from a spider named Charlotte.  So when Wilbur meets Cardigan, a lonely lamb, Wilbur immediately makes him his friend.  Wilbur shows Cardigan the joys of farm life and introduces him to three very special spiders – Nellie, Aranea and Joy – Charlotte’s daughters.  When Farmer Zuckerman suddenly sells Cardigan to another farmer, Wilbur and Charlotte’s daughters set out on an unforgettable journey to find Cardigan…and discover that with courage, heart and the love of your friends, you can do most anything.
