Project Runway

Project-Runway-logoWith Slingshot openly declaring war on local broadcasters and rights holders by actively encouraging users to access overseas streaming content providers, the New Zealand Herald is suggesting fans of Project Runway will need to do the same if they want to watch a kiwi designer who has landed a role on the show.

A Kiwi fashion designer who grew up watching Project Runway with his sister in rural Taranaki has been picked for the hit American TV show.

Sean Kelly, 25, from Hawera, is the first New Zealander chosen and is competing on the 13th season of New-York based fashion show, hosted by international model Heidi Klum (right).

However, New Zealanders may have to download the show from the internet as TV3 is yet to schedule the series. Continue reading »

9:30pm – Thursday, February 9 on TV 3

Heidi Klum has revealed that Project Runway will open its ninth season this week with a nightwear challenge. The design competition series, which also features Michael Kors and Nina Garcia as judges, returns to our screens on Thursday, February 9th at 9:30pm on 3.

This season’s premiere episode will kick off with a tough task when Tim Gunn gives the designers a very early morning wake-up call and inform them they will be designing an outfit using only the nightwear they are currently wearing for fabric.

“For the first challenge,” explains Klum, “all the designers meet and go back to their apartment and go to bed, then at one in the morning Tim Gunn knocks on the door and says, ‘OK, the first challenge is about to happen right now. You have to make an outfit with your pyjamas’.”

“Some [of the designers] didn’t wear much,” Klum continues. “Some just had little boxer shorts on or a little T-shirt, others had more on. The more they had on the better because they had more fabric!”

“No birthday suits but it teaches you that you better wear a lot to bed,” adds Michael Kors.

In a shock twist for the 20 contestants, they also learn that only 16 of them will be continuing on to the next stage of the competition, meaning it is the end of the road for four designers.

Christina Ricci will join Heidi, Michael and Nina for the first judging, while other guest judges lined up for this season include Kim Kardashian, Zoe Saldana and Malin Akerman.

But before these A-listers make their guest appearances, make sure not to miss your first introduction to all 20 hopefuls when Project Runway returns to our screens on Thursday, February 9th at 9:30pm on 3.

9:30pm – Thursday, July 7 on TV 3

Jessica Simpson joins Heidi Klum and co. when the singer turned designer takes her seat as guest judge in this week’s Project Runway season finale, screening on Thursday, July 7 th at 9:30pm on 3. This week’s season eight finale will see the songstress giving her opinions on the colourful creations of the final designers, but according to series host Nina Garcia, this will not be an easy task.

“I voted to have two winners,” Garcia explains about deciding about the series’ four finalists.

Among the final designers is edgy Hawaii native Andy South – “an excellent contender,” Garcia says. “Great with texture, great with innovation. His aesthetic is very modern. Andy’s biggest problem is time management.”

Confidence is no problem for eco-friendly Gretchen Jones. “She thinks she knows it all,” Garcia explains. “She’s great at making cool, relatable pieces, but I don’t think she’s used to hearing criticism.”

Californian Michael Costello has gotten a critical earful – from his peers. “They think he’s not skilled from a sewing standpoint, but his forte is the draping,” Garcia explains. “He’s probably the most classic of the bunch.” Garcia deems quirky Mondo Guerra a true original. “He’s bold and extremely creative,” she says, though admits he can get “costume-y” at times.

Recalling Mondo’s revelation of his HIV-positive status in a recent episode, Garcia says, “It took a lot of courage. This was the first time in Project Runway history that we were so moved.” But the question still remains, which of these four designers will taking home the top prize? Find out when Project Runway concludes its action-packed eighth season on Thursday, July 7 th at 9:30pm on 3.

It’s a return to the style tests and garb digs when the perfect-fitting Project Runway premieres its highly anticipated eighth season on Thursday, April 7th at 9:30pm on 3.

Not only does this week see the return of Project Runway, but to celebrate the series’ eighth season, Hollywood actress Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) will be joining supermodel Heidi Klum, fashion designer Michael Kors and fashion magazine editor Nina Garcia on the judging panel!

“We’ve been wanting to have Selma Blair on Project Runway for a while. She is so chic and has great individual style,” explains executive producer Jane Cha.

And Blair will help make a crucial decision for the series’ premiere episode.

With 17 designers, instead of the typical 16, the first challenge of season eight will serve as the final part of the show’s audition process. Contestants will have five hours to design a garment, using a signature piece from a competitor’s luggage.

“Blair ended up being a perfect guest judge for our first challenge – super knowledgeable about fashion and the show, because she’s a fan,” Cha continues.

“She had some hilarious observations, including a comparison to Romy and Michelle shopping buddies!”

Make sure not to miss Blair, as well as your first introduction to the 17 new contestants when Project Runway premieres its brand new season on Thursday, April 7th at 9:30pm on 3.
