Australia will host the Rugby League World Cup this year, as well as being red-hot favourites to take the silverware for the 10th time. England and New Zealand can be expected to give it their best shot, and France, which has a proud history in rugby league, will also come to play. Special mention belongs to Papua New Guinea – probably the only team for whom this is the national sport. They are mad about the game, introduced to them by Australian gold miners in the 1930s, and a number of their top players end up in club sides in the Australian NRL and the Super League in England.
