Southern Lakes

America has commissioned a number of movies in New Zealand – The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia etc. And even a few TV shows – Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules. Now, Greg Bonnan, the producer who gave the world Pamela Anderson is said to be working on his next project – a sexy new drama.

Tentatively titled Southern Lakes, there is the possibility that three kiwi girls will be given the same opportunity when the pilot is shot in Queenstown next year.

The idea of having a show based in the adventure capital of the world could work well. There would be plenty of new characters that would float in and out of the story as they arrived in the tourist town which should lead to plenty of scope for interesting arcs.

With Queenstown being one of the hottest tourist destinations in the world now, it is no surprise that someone has finally come up with a story that works with that magical part of New Zealand.

US producer and director Greg Bonann (Baywatch) hopes to film a new TV drama called Southern Lakes (working title) in Queenstown next year.

The show is said to be a “sizzling hot drama” based round Queenstown’s tourism scene and will show off the surrounding beautiful landscape. As well as having “colourful” international characters, there will be three gorgeous adventurous sisters trying to rescue their grandfather’s plane charter business called Queenstown Air.

The show will be great news for New Zealand’s tourism business, as well as hopefully creating some new TV stars.
