The BOX brings you an encore screening of the first season of the break out Spartacus series. Filled with drama, sex and violence it is inspired by the historical figure of Spartacus and tells the tale of a Thracian gladiator, who from 73 to 71 BC led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic.

Whitfield documentary reaches target

A documentary following the final days of former Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield has reached its target budget after appealing to the public to help fund it. $200,000 was raised after the call went out earlier this month.

CSI: NY adds Morrow

Actress Lucy Lawless and six other Greenpeace activists have had her court date shifted again.

The group were arrested earlier this year for burglary after they protested aboard the Shell oil discovery vessel Noble Discoverer at Port Taranaki.

The Spartacus actress spent 77 hours up the 53-metre drilling tower on the vessel before she was was arrested by police. Continue reading »

Tonight on 3 News, Lucy Lawless was asked if she could recall doing an advertisement for Shell in the early days of her career.  She confessed that she only remembered while they were up the tower on the ship they were protesting on.

Kiwi actress Lucy Lawless has been arrested after boarding the oil exploration ship Noble Explorer in protest of planned drilling off the cost of Alaska.

The Spartacus actress, along with other Greenpeace campaigners, have been arrested by police after spending three nights and four days on board the ship.

The Noble Explorer was due to leave Port Taranaki yesterday, but has been delayed due to the protest.

Spartacus actor John Hannah will play a major recurring role alongside Ryan Phillippe in the fifth and final season of Damages. 

Sheen criticises new Men series

Charlie Sheen has been quick to criticise the new version of Two and a Half Men but still beleves Ashton Kutcher is doing an OK job. “I’m extremely disappointed with how they’re handling what I left behind,” Sheen told TMZ. “He’s doing the best he can. I don’t think the role is cursed.”

True Blood creator developing new show

True Blood creator Alan Ball is developing a new medical drama for HBO called Wichita. The drama centre son a Kansa abortion doctor who ends up as the focal point of a “contemporary political, cultural and ethical war”.

Former Spartacus: Blood and Sand actor Andy Whitfield has died, aged 37.

The Australian actor, who featured in the lead role in the New Zealand-filmed series, passed away on Sunday. He had been battling non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Whitfield was diagnosed 18 months ago with the form of cancer, as he was preparing for the second season of the Spartacus series.

Whitfield’s wife Vashti said in a statement that her “beautiful young warrior” passed away on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife”.

Bones renewed for seventh season

Bones actor David Boreanaz has confirmed that a seventh season of the crime series has been ordered. Boreanaz, who plays Seeley on the show, confirmed the news via Twitter: “Oh, Season 7 is GO for Bones.”

Spartacus recast Naevia role

Spartacus execs have recast the part of Naevia after actress Lesley-Ann Brandt decided to leave the series in February. Cynthia Addai-Robinson will take on the role for the second season of the series that hits screens next year.

Tyler to debut video on Idol

American Idol judge Steven Tyler will debut the video for his first ever solo single on an episode of the show next week. The song is believed to feature former Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Nixon to guest on Law & Order: CI

Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon has signed on for a guest role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Nixon is best known for her role as Miranda in Sex and the City but has appeared recently on The Big C.

ABC deny Brothers and Sisters axe rumours

ABC in the US has denied rumours that Brothers and Sisters has been cancelled, instead saying that no decision has been made yet regarding the show’s future. Actress Rachel Griffiths fuelled speculation over the weekend by joking at the Logies: “I’m soon to be unemployed, so I checked in with [benefits centre] Centrelink… and said, ‘Looks like I’m out of a job and wanna sign up’.”
