The Libra Design Project

TVNZ and Libra are teaming up to offer one talented young designer the opportunity of a lifetime. Hosted by the multi-talented Jessie Gurunathan, The Libra Design Project is a brand new five-part online series starting on Wednesday 2 March at 5pm.

Thrilled to be part of such an exciting project, Gurunathan hopes her love of people and all things fashion will help make the online show a hit. “This project really caught my attention because it’s all about nurturing young talent in New Zealand,” says Gurunathan. “It’s amazing when you get given an opportunity to pursue your passion, what incredible opportunities will flourish. I can’t wait to see what each contestant has to offer.”

Six aspiring fashion designers, who have been hand picked by resident fashion expert Deanna Didovich – head fashion designer of the well-known and adored New Zealand fashion label Ruby – are about to take up the challenge of putting their design skills to the test.

The ambitious designers who have been selected to take part are 22-year-old Kate O’Mara, 26-year-old Kerry Trent Ranginui, 17-year-old Kiana Clayton-Koka, 22-year-old Qiulae Wong, 20-year-old Trish Peng, all from Auckland, and 28-year-old Zowie Heywood from Wellington.

Inspired by the skill level of the top six, Didovich says the competition is going to be tough. “Each of the finalists brings something different to the table, and they’re all incredibly talented. I’m so pleased I’ll have support from the viewers and other judges in the final stages when it comes to choosing a winner.”

This is a fantastic opportunity for these designers to show the fashion world they have what it takes to create outstanding clothing – they could be the next Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester or Francis Hooper!

Each episode will follow the contestants, who will face weekly fashion challenges to test their design and sewing skills, in the bid to win the ultimate fashion prize – a fashion show displaying their mini clothing line, plus $1000 cash, and more!

Viewers will have the chance to vote for their favourite designer, and will go into the draw to win prizes by doing so.

This show will be an entertaining and nail-biting must-see series!
