Hamm and Giamatti for 30 Rock

Tina Fey has announced that Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and actor Paul Giamatti will make guest appearances on 30 Rock in the upcoming season. Hamm will reprise his role as Drew on the comedy series while Giamatti will play a “grouchy television editor”.

Gervais not heading back to The Office

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that he will definitely not be taking over from Steve Carell in the American remake of The Office. The comedian confirmed at the recent Emmy Awards that he will not take any acting part in the show and would prefer to simply keep his post as producer.

BBC takes legal action against Stig book

The BBC has taken legal action aimed at blocking the publication of an autobiography by HarperCollins which would fully reveal the identity of Top Gear’s The Stig. It is understood the driver is bound by a confidentiality agreement and revealing his identity would spoil the viewers’ enjoyment of the motoring show.

Monk for Brothers & Sisters

Brothers & Sisters has continued casting for its next season by signing Debra Monk for a recurring role. The actress, who will play a character called Alexandra, has appeared on the likes of Grey’s Anatomy in the past.

Gervais returning to The Simpsons

Comedian Ricky Gervais will return to The Simpsons for another appearance in yellow after first guest starring in 2006. Gervais will feature on the same episode as actress Halle Berry.

MTV renews new series

MTV has renewed new comedy series The Hard Times of RJ Berger for a second season. The first season of the show, which follows an American teen whose social life takes a major turn when he discovers he’s unusually well endowed, will hit NZ screens in September this year.

Actor departs Brothers & Sisters

Another series regular is exiting Brothers & Sisters in the form of actor Balthazar Getty who plays Tommy Walker. Getty will follow Rob Lowe and Emily VanCamp in leaving the drama series.

Elliott Gould to guest on CSI

Veteran actor Elliott Gould will make a guest appearance on CSI in the show’s upcoming season. Gould is expected to play a casino mogul who gets caught up amongst the CSI team when his casino becomes a crime scene.

Olyphant heading to The Office

Actor Timothy Olyphant has signed on for a guest role on The Office in the upcoming season. Olyphant will appear in at least two episodes of the comedy playing a character who will be installed as Michael’s (Steve Carell) new enemy.

American IT Crowd on the way

The creator of The IT Crowd Graham Linehan has confirmed that an American version of the UK comedy series will be made despite a previous attempt coming to nothing. A US version was developed back in 2007 with a pilot being shot but the project was eventually shelved by NBC.

The Office to continue without Carell

NBC has pledged to continue making more seasons of The Office despite the confirmation that Steve Carell will be exiting the comedy next year. The network has said they knew for some time that Carell was going to leave so their writers have had plenty of time to develop storylines for the future.

Film actor joins Law & Orde spin-off

Iron Man actor Terrence Howard has joined the cast of new spin-off series Law & Order: Los Angeles. The actor will team up with Skeet Ulrich, Alfred Molina and Corey Stoll in the new crime procedural where he is set to play a Deputy DA.

Jennifer Aniston visiting Cougar Town?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the next big guest star to appear on new Courtney Cox comedy Cougar Town could well be her Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston. EW is claiming Aniston is nearing a deal to make a guest appearance on the sitcom.

Glee honoured by TV critics

Glee has been honoured by the US Television Critics Association at their annual awards night with wins in the Program of the Year and Outstanding New Program categories as well as an Individual Achievement in Comedy for Jane Lynch.

Ghost Whisperer lead Jennifer Love Hewitt will make an appearance on Law & Order: Criminal Intent as a woman who has been sexually assaulted several times and is afraid to leave her home.

Carell confirms Office exit

Steve Carell has officially confirmed he will exit The Office following the next season. The comedian will end his turn as Michael Scott when his contract expires next year.

Montag backs out of new reality show

The Hills cast member Heidi Montag has pulled out of a planned reality show featuring former Hills member Jen Bunney. The pair had planned to develop a new show after the conclusion of The Hills but Montag has since pulled the plug.

Glee male cast to host Awards show

The male cast members of Glee will host the upcoming 2010 Teen Choice Awards.  Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith and Mark Salling will front the awards show which is set for August 9.

BBC denies Doctor Who movie rumour

The BBC have denied they are planning a Doctor Who movie adaptation despite the rumour mill working overtime saying there is one in the works. The British network has labelled it all “pure speculation.”

Cowell tips Connick Jr for American Idol

Departing American Idol judge Simon Cowell is tipping singer Harry Connick Jr to replace him on the show. Connick Jr appeared on the show last season as a mentor during a Frank Sinatra-themed episode.

The Office character tops geek poll

A character from The Office in the US has been voted the greatest geek on television. Dwight Schrute, played by Rainn Wilson, took the top spot in the poll followed by the likes of Carlton from The Fresh prince of Bel Air and J.D. from Scrubs.

Flashforward ‘most missed’ show

A recent poll has also found that Flashforward is the ‘most missed’ axed show. The Zap2It poll saw the drama take over 46% of the vote with Ghost Whisperer and Law & Order making up the top three.

Carell talks Office exit

The Office’s Steve Carell has confirmed his desire to leave the comedy series after its seventh season. The actor who plays boss Michael Scott in the American remake believes its a good time to move on following the upcoming season.

Marvel open TV division

Marvel Comics has created a television division in a move which the company hopes to boost their presence on the small screen. They have named Jeph Loeb, who has worked on Marvel comics and on shows such as Lost and Smallville, as head of Marvel Television.

CSI future safe

There’s plenty more CSI on the horizon with two of the series showrunners signing new multi-year deals.  Both CSI and CSI: Miami’s chiefs have inked new four-year deals which will see them lead the shows into the future.

Lohan’s plan another reality show

Another Lohan reality show is coming to the screen with Lindsay Lohan’s mum confirming the family will appear in a new show. The unnamed series will follow the family as they live their everyday lives, with the odd appearance by the family’s star daughter.

Sarandon developing reality show

Adding to the list of reality shows that should never be made is one by Susan Sarandon which will centre on her ping pong club SPiN and its member’s quest to make the Olympic team.

Glee to focus on original cast

Amidst talk that Glee was getting to carried away with its guest stars, creator Ryan Murphy has said that the new season will focus on the original cast members.  He explains that the guest stars such as John Stamos and Charice will be there to develop the current cast’s plots.

Cassidy joins Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl has obtained the services of Melrose Place actress Katie Cassidy for several episodes next season. The actress will appear in a multi-episode arc on the show.

Doctor Who auctions

A number of major props from Doctor Who are going under the hammer next week including the Tardis from previous seasons. The item, used in 2005, is expected to fetch up to NZ$25,000 along with an original Dalek dating back to 1964 estimated at $NZ7000.

Entourage confirms guests

Entourage has confirmed Lenny Kravitz and P Diddy will make guest appearance sin the upcoming season of the show. Kravitz will play himself as a client of Ari’s while Diddy will join Mark Walhberg in one of his token golf course appearances.

CSI: Miami drops cast member

CSI: Miami have cut cast member Eddie Cibrian (Cardoza) for the next season of the show. The actor only recently joined the cast of the crime procedural after an original member left, but now the producers have decided to revert back to focussing on the remaining original cast.

New Hollywood stars

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced which television celebrities will be receiving stars on the Walk of Fame for 2011. 30 Rock’s Tina Fey heads the list, along with Idol creator Simon Fuller, Neil Patrick Harris, John Langley, Ed O’Neill, John Wells and Oprah Winfrey.

Vuvuzela-free games screened

Several international networks have screened vuvuzela-free games from the FIFA World Cup after receiving so many complaints from the viewers. German and French networks have led the way with the BBC in the UK also planning to filter out the drone for England’s next match against Algeria.

Eric Roberts joining soap

Eric Roberts is making a return to the world of soaps, with the actor confirming he is set for a role on The Young and the Restless. Roberts will play an attorney representing a familiar cast member on the soap, debuting in July.

Tommy Lee for Californication

Rocker Tommy Lee will make a guest appearance on the upcoming season of Californication. Lee will appear alongside David Duchovny in the drama series which has seen several celebrities make small appearances over the past few seasons.

The Office promotes Gabe

Zach Woods has been promoted to a series regular in the next season of The Office in the US. Woods plays Gabe Lewis in the comedy which is set to lose star Steve Carrell after the seventh season.

Another new signing for Dexter

Dexter has announced yet another cast addition with April Lee Hernandez set to join the drama in the new season. The ex-ER actress will play a new police officer alongside big-name signing Julia Stiles.

Tonight: In a part one of a two part episode, strife on the party planning committee results in two competing Christmas parties, while Michael is dumped for the holidays. Michael sends out an inappropriately photo-shopped Christmas card and gets his heart broken for the holidays by girlfriend Carol. Andy takes Michael out drinking. Dwight and Jim while tensions on the party planning committee between Angela, Pam and Karen cause rival parties to form.
