While there he met Polish girl Iwona and within months they were travelling round Europe, falling in love and getting engaged. They decided to marry in Iwona’s home town of Gdansk, a beautiful, cultured and ancient European town. It was to be Greg’s first visit to Poland: to meet the parents, apply for a marriage licence and organise the wedding. After a night of celebration with friends, Iwona and Greg returned to their Gdansk apartment to find four thugs hanging around the building foyer. Without warning the thugs laid into Greg.

On a trip to Peru, 27-year-old Tim Minogue, his fiance Carola, and his dad, Kevin, leave the comfort of their hotel, to grab a bite to eat. They flag down a local taxi, unaware that this is the very thing that the travel guidebooks warn tourists not to do. Shortly after getting into the cab, three well built locals jump into their cab, pointing guns to their faces and pinning the passengers to their seats. They are blindfolded and told to co-operate or die.

Christmas 2006 and South Australian Pat Poskey is enjoying a coffee in a cafe on his holiday in Thailand. He’s waiting for his girlfriend Ariel to arrive at which point he would ask her to marry him. Without warning, however, two policemen walk into the cafe and tell Pat that he needs to come with them. Oblivious to what he is being charged with, Pat becomes quickly aware that he has been targeted in an extortion operation. A ‘lady boy’ from a nearby bar has identified Pat as the owner of a handful of used bullet shells. Although completely innocent, Pat is told that he will be driven to an ATM to pay a hefty fine. Pat is compliant but a fine would have been a good result in comparison to the nightmare that was about to unfold.

It was supposed to be the surfing trip of a lifetime for Peter “Buzz” Buswell and Warren “Ed” Poulter – two Aussie surfers from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. What began as a morning of surfing on incredible waves ends in horror as the men are taken at gunpoint by armed police, and witness a man being killed in cold blood. The police eventually release the men, giving them only four hours to leave the town. However, they take Buzz and Ed’s ute, leaving them with no possessions, money, passports or a way to get home. All they have is their surfboards…

However, the girls soon head toward very dangerous waters.

Trouble In Paradise tells the stories of Australian and British travellers who’ve been subjected to terrifying experiences while on holidays in different parts of the world – and how the travellers ultimately escaped with their lives. Each episode consists of two stories, with each story being told first-hand through interviews with the travellers. The program uses actors to play the parts of the real-life travellers and re-enacts the situations with as much realistic detail as possible. In this episode, a sightseeing tour turns to terror when a suicide bomber holds a group of Aussies hostage.
