Netflix renews House of Cards

Online streaming service Netflix has renewed their political drama House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey for a third season.  The entire second season of the award winning show will be made available online at the end of next week.  Meanwhile, the first season is still yet to begin airing here.

Wentworth to be remade in Holland

Aussie drama Wentworth is to be remade as a Dutch-language show entitled Celblok-H.  Wentworth, a reboot of the 80’s classic Prisoner Cell Block H, has been successfully exported by Fremantle Media to more that 20 countries.  A third season has already been commissioned prior to the completion of filming for the second season.  This is the second country to sign up to adapt the show for a local market after a German version was announced last year. wwFoxtel today announced a third season of the internationally acclaimed drama Wentworth from FremantleMedia Australia.

Shooting is underway for season two of Wentworth until mid-February and then production will resume for season three in March, keeping cast and crew in the cell blocks at the Melbourne, Australia, location until mid-year.

Wentworth draws on characters and elements of the iconic Prisoner series as it builds its own brave and bold, contemporary story. Continue reading »

wentworthnzNew Aussie drama Wentworth got off to a reasonably good start on TV2 last night, winning its timeslot.

The prison drama – which features New Zealander Danielle Cormack in the lead role alongside another former Shortland Street actor Robbie Magasiva – drew 266,830 viewers in the 9.30pm hour.

The Prisoner remake was up against Castle on TV One (188,730) and Taken on TV3 (235,790).

The NZ figure is roughly a third of that which took in the premiere in Australia earlier this year on Foxtel’s premium content channel SoHo. Continue reading »

wentworthTVNZ has picked up the new highly-anticipated Australian drama Wentworth.

The broadcaster has signed a pre-sale deal that will see the FremantleMedia International series air in New Zealand.

The 10-episode drama is a reboot of the classic Aussie series Prisoner from the late 1970s and early 1980s, which centred on a fictional women’s prison.

New Zealand actress Danielle Cormack (Underbelly: Razor) plays the lead role of Bea Smith while Shortland Street’s Robbie Magasiva plays Will Jackson. Continue reading »
