83.5% aren't excited about TV3's Telethon
This has to suck for TV3.
In a poll on Stuff, 83.5% of respondents aren't excited at all about TV3's upcoming Telethon in August.
One would have thought this number would have been lower but perhaps the generation that grew up remembering those all night fundraisers just don't watch television any more and the current generation that would be likely to stay up just a) don't know what Telethon is to be excited about it or b) don't read Stuff.
Perhaps the population just isn't excited about the opportunity to pay cash to see Mike McRoberts take his shirt off but putting your mind to it, surely there are some exciting possibilities. Like, how much would you give if you dared the programmer to schedule shows at a better time and closer to their US release date?
I'm sure in the back of the minds of the lovely female presenters on TV3 they must be begging that no one puts in any offers to see them lock lips with each other. Sorry girls but you just know it's going to happen.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Telethon in August?

Well I sure wont be participating/watching or interested in the slightest. It's not good television in my opinion. Some throw back nostelgia doesn't always work. It does with Wheel of Fortune, but that is all.

Actually Dave, they are!

A shame that TVNZ isn't allowing any of its personalities join in the Telethon, but then again TV3 would probably run a similar line if the roles were reversed. Things are much more relaxed in countries like the US and UK, where cast and personalities from other networks are free on talkshows, gameshows, charity events, etc on rival networks/channels. NZ TV seems to be a bit more anal about things like that...Jay
What's a Telethon?give us telethrong, sorry Radiothrong
ooooh celebrities oh dear what a day.TheStig
Not if it's just going to be Petra Bagust and all of the TV 3 news team. They're not celebrities, and don't excite me one bit. Also two-bit actors don't count as celebrities either, nor does Jason Gunn.
give us telethrong, sorry Radiothrong
Such high excitement should be screened on Crap4, just what celibates need Crap4, but then who is going to put their hand up? The TV2 Telethons used to go down quite well, I remembered back then I used to switch to TV2 to see how much money they had, then go back to TV1 for real entertainment, but now there is nothing.Jason
I don't even know what it is?Purple Tentacle
Kiwi's are too cool to get excited about anything. Also, I haven't seen any advertising for it AT ALL. So not at all surprised...regan
It would be nice to think some celebs from other channels played a role but that's pretty unlikely.

To right bobscoffee, TV3 personalities will just be pitiful and cringe worthy (2 Hours of Christmas in the Park Anybody) but i suppose mediaworks management will force there Radio personalities onto the event of course more fm ones are guaranteed but will Simon barnett make an appearence? I would like to see at least some TVNZ personalities or current shortland street actors but its a bit far fetched.

Well, I think old dewy eyed Mike McRoberts is to blame for this.
Who wants to see him get all teary eyed and start asking us to "think about the children"?
bobscoffee
I can't say I'm excited about it at the moment. TV3 personalities alone won't do it for me. There'd have to be something a little more compelling than that to have me switch over to watch for more than an hour or two

Silly poll.
Whenever you just ask people "Are you excited about *******" they'll mostly reply 'no' just because people enjoy being smartasses.
