Dominic Bowden impresses as host

October 25th, 2007

Reuters makes a pretty bold statement about new reality show The Next Great American Band with its headline "Next Great American Band" surpasses "Idol" and praises host Dominic Bowden:

"It has better judges, a better host, sharper storytelling and editing that is at least as smart...Dominic Bowden, who has similar duties on New Zealand's "Idol," is fresher and more at ease than his "American Idol" counterpart, Ryan Seacrest."

Reality TV Calendar said: "Sometimes I found his accent to be a little hard to understand, but he is very likable."

October 8th, 2007

Hosted by Dominic Bowden (New Zealand Idol), The Next Great American Band takes the musical reality genre to a whole new performance level with a mission to find undiscovered groups.

Singer/songwriter John Rzeznik (The Goo Goo Dolls), legendary percussionist and performer Sheila E. (The Glamorous Life, A Love Bizarre) and Australian TV personality Ian “Dicko” Dickson (Australian Idol) will serve as judges for the series from the producers of mega-hit phenomenon, American Idol.

From the auditions featured in the October 19 premiere episode, judges Rzeznik, Sheila E. and “Dicko” will narrow down the hopefuls to 12 semi-finalist bands who will perform weekly in front of a live studio audience.

From hair bands to hip-hop, classic rockers to country crooners, every genre of music will be represented as the bands perform the varied styles from week to week.

Then it’s up to the viewers to determine with their votes which band will secure a contract with 19 Recordings and the title of The Next Great American Band.

The Next Great American Band

August 3rd, 2007

The makers of American Idol take the musical reality genre to a whole new level with a mission to find undiscovered American bands that are ready to rock the nation, starting with the special two-hour series premiere of THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND (working title) in the US on Friday, October 19 on FOX.

Musical groups of all ages and styles auditioned for a backstage pass to stardom.

From the auditions, judges will narrow down the hopefuls to 10 semifinalist bands who will perform weekly in front of a live studio audience. Viewers will vote for their favorite bands to determine who stays in the competition.

Each week, the bands will perform either original music or covers of varied styles. The range of genres will test their musical limits, and could also strike the wrong chord in their personal and professional relationships.

The season finale brings the ultimate battle of the bands, with the last three groups competing to secure a contract with 19 Recordings and the title of "Next Great American Band."
