The number eight is considered lucky in Chinese culture because it sounds like the Chinese word for "prosper".
At 8:08:08pm on the eighth day of the eighth month in 2008 the games of the XXIXth Olympiad will commence.
The strong link to sudden fortune will keep New Zealand's athletes focussed on the pursuit of gold and we're sending our biggest Olympic team yet. Almost 100 years ago New Zealand sent our first athlete to an Olympic Games; in 2008 we'll be sending our 1000th.

What a weird channel for the Chaser's War on Everything! Other than that it looks like another dull year on the TV ONE schedule.
