TVNZ | Rants

What Next?

What rights are TVNZ going to lose next? While losing rights to TV3 and Maori TV won't affect us too much, it's a bit concerning that soon there may be no ONE Sport at all unless they cover trivial sports like gumboot-throwing.

They've long lost the cricket and rugby hosting rights, just recently lost the Rugby World Cup and F1 rights, the basketball rights, and now the rights to the V8.

Will they lose the rights to the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and the America's Cup (the only three which they have managed to keep hold of) next? What is going on in TVNZ? Besides not having the money, have they lost the ability to put together compelling proposals for events they can afford to bid on?

The problem is that a lot of the content instead of going to TV3 and Maori TV, etc, will soon be all on Sky Sport.

I guess it's goodbye to ONE Sport and TVNZ SPORT EXTRA then..

yeah i just found out in the news tonight that tv3 has won the rights to the v8s for the next 5 years.

as for netball now they really only have rights to most of the silver ferns games. they don't even have full coverage of the netball world cup either. sky will be broadcasting the new transtasman league that replaces the domestic competition

This is concerning. I had no idea TVNZ had lost so many rights to broadcasting sport (I'm surprised at the V8 having watched it on TVNZ Sport last night).

Loosing the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and the America's Cup rights would be a gigantic loss - but they still have netball don't they?
