Betty's Hard Work and Determination Shines on Ugly Betty

Sunday 19 July, 5.30pm
Betty's hard work and determination shines tonight on Ugly Betty as she continues to win respect in the shark infested waters of the fashion industry, and with the help of Matt’s mum (guest star Christine Baranski-Cybill), takes a step further in becoming a career woman in the publishing business.
Teaming up with Matt and Marc for their all-important final YETI (The Young Editor's Training Initiative) project, a photo shoot with Grammy winner Adele, Betty has everything going nicely but Matt's slacking off could jeopardise everything they've worked for.
Though Betty has limited knowledge in the fashion arena, her creative flair and writing ability has become evident of late through her affiliation with YETI, and she begins to see that she and Wilhelmina might not be polar opposites as she has always concluded.
Speaking about the increasing similarities of these two characters, America Ferrera, who plays Betty, muses, "I think what has been really interesting about this season is that who Betty is has been challenged in certain situations, and that parallels have been drawn between Betty and Wilhelmina."
Ferrera continues, "Then Wilhelmina, who's supposed to be the most evil person on the show, and Betty, who's supposed to be the moral upstanding person on the show, see that the things that separate them are only their choices, and that their wants are very similar and the things that they want out of life make them more alike than they are different."
Betty Suarez has always had one goal in life: to make it into the publishing business, and with the YETI programme, she finally seems to be achieving the recognition she has long deserved. Along with this, her ambitions are becoming more clearly aligned with those of Wilhelmina.
"I think she wants a lot out of her career and her life, and how much she's willing to sacrifice in her personal life for that career will become a big question for her," Ferrera concludes.
Also on this week, love is everywhere as two wedding proposals are made, but in a twist of fate only one couple will walk down the aisle.
