Kirsty Parkhill - Exit Interview

March 3rd, 2010

Despite the belief by both Nicky Clarke and Karen Reid that it should have been Catherine Livingstone in the boardroom last night instead of them, Kirsty Parkhill is adamant Catherine wasn't the one responsible for Athena's loss which ultimately saw her fired on The Apprentice New Zealand this week.

"I think Catherine is a very vocal competitor who brings a lot to the table." Kirsty told us this morning.  "She bought a lot to the table and spoke up when she believed in something and I believe that's a strength.  A lot of the time Catherine puts her head on the block because she puts everything into a task and she does say what she thinks, and besides, I felt she had my back."

While Kim Laurenson in the first week condemned Catherine's ethics along with Karen last night in the boardroom, Kirsty always thought she was honest about everything.  "She wears her heart on her sleeve and is very honest.  In all those conflicts, I think it was more a misunderstanding."

What would you do at TVNZ to reduce costs?

February 28th, 2010

Last week we had a call from a reporter at the Sunday Star Times who was writing an article about what critics would do at TVNZ after their profit report was once again significantly smaller than the previous period.

I spent about 25 minutes on the phone with the reporter with only a couple of things being quoted so I thought I'd go into a little more detail here.  The four questions and our answers are below:

1.Which would be the first two programmes in the current or forthcoming schedules you’d take an axe to (either spike them, or drastically cut back)?

The two shows we would take the axe to would be One News and Close Up.  Reduce the 6pm bulletin to 30 minutes. Considering 15 minutes of the 60 minute bulletin is typically weather that shouldn't be too difficult.  Get rid of the pointless live crosses to people standing in locations where something happened hours ago and/or nothing is happening at all now.  Use one anchor.

Masterchef Goes Large instrumental music

February 26th, 2010

Does anyone else watch this on FoodTV or seen it last year on TV1?

The show has instrumental music that sounds very much like "My Delirium" by Ladyhawke.

Is it or is it just a coincidence?
